We’re a Chesterfield based community project helping people to find local activities, groups, and places to connect.
From free meals and craft groups to social meetups and support services, we make it easy to see what’s happening near you.
Helping people to feel more connected through community activities
Activity Space was created to make it easier for people to find out what’s happening locally, whether they’re looking for support, company, or just something to do. It began as a PDF guide listing local activities, but to keep things more up to date and easier to use, we’ve now developed a mobile-friendly app.
Part of Feeling Connected
We're part of the Feeling Connected network which helps to tackle isolation across Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire.

Explore Activities in Chesterfield
Explore Activities on the Go with Our New App, Made with Glide
Use our mobile-friendly web app to explore what’s happening in Chesterfield. You can search for activities, check venue details, and browse by day or category - all in one place, from your phone or tablet.
What is a Progressive Web App (PWA)?
Our app is a Progressive Web App. That means it works like a regular app but runs through your browser. You can install it directly from the browser and add it to your home screen for quick access. It’s fast, works on most phones and tablets, and doesn’t take up much space.
We chose this format because it’s easier to update, doesn’t need app store approval, and is ideal for local projects. It also lets us share the app directly with residents and partners, while keeping control over how it’s used.
The app is built using Glide, a platform designed for simple and collaborative community apps.
Why did you create an app?
We created the app to make community activities more accessible for local residents, and easier to update for venues. We’re hoping it becomes a shared effort between venues in Chesterfield — where everyone helps promote each other’s activities. Like a rising tide that lifts all boats, the more we work together, the more people we can reach.
Is there still a PDF or printable guide?
We’ve thinking about moving away from the PDF to keep everything up to date and in one place. We don’t have it listed on our website currently, but we could re-add it in the future, based on feedback.
Why does the app have a .page web address?
The app runs on a .glide.page address because we’re using the free version of Glide. It works just like a paid version, but Glide adds a few extra characters to the end of the web address — this is completely normal and part of how they track app usage on their system.
If we upgrade in future, we’ll be able to use our own custom web address instead.
How to Install the app?
How to Add the App to Your Home Screen

This will open the app in your phone’s web browser.
For Android (using Chrome)
Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner
Select “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”
You can rename it if you like, then tap Add
Confirm the prompt
For iPhone (using Safari)
Tap the Share icon (a square with an upward arrow)
Scroll down and tap “Add to Home Screen”
Rename it if you like, then tap Add in the top right corner
Why isn’t it in the App Store?
At the moment, the app runs through the Glide platform as a ‘progressive web app’ (PWA). Publishing it to the App Store or Google Play would require further development and testing, which we’re not set up for just yet. App stores also allows anyone, anywhere in the world to view the app, whereas this way it’s more of a closed community.
For now, adding it to your home screen gives you a very similar experience – without needing an app store.
Can i access it from desktop?
Yes, the app can be accessed on desktop, mobile, or tablet. While it functions the same across all devices, it’s designed primarily for mobile use, so the experience may feel a bit more polished there, just like most apps.
On desktop, you won’t be able to install it as an app, but you can still use it directly through your web browser.
Is it safe to use?
Yes – the app is securely hosted and encrypted via Glide, the platform we used to build it. Your connection is protected, and no personal data is collected or stored by us through the app.
Glide powers thousands of apps used by people every day – even on its free plan – and is trusted by communities, schools, and organisations around the world.
How do I add activities to the app?
How do I add activities to the app?
Only venue managers can currently add or edit listings. If you help run a community venue, we’d love for you to book an onboarding session. You can do that by emailing us at hello@activityspace.org.uk
Is this project free?
Yes, this project is completely free for users and community venues. Everything has been set up and maintained by volunteers in Chesterfield, with support from Derbyshire Voluntary Action. We’re committed to keeping it free and accessible for everyone.
How can I share this project?
The best way to share this project is by sharing the website. From there, people can access the Glide app or the PDF version, depending on their preference, and they can also read more about the project before getting started.
There have been occasional issues with the app link not working correctly when it’s shared directly, especially if the wrong version of the URL is used. By sharing the website instead, you can be sure people always get the correct and working version of the app, as the link is kept up to date here.
